Tent visitors visited each and every tent of the designated areas with the following objectives.

  • To assess the need of the victims.
  • To assess the material already present in the tent.

TV issued slip by writing QFM over it, it means to RS(Relief supplier) that issue one quilt, one packet of food and medicine after medical check-up. If any tent has two families then TV issue two slips. Paper selected for the slips have special reference to AIM.

Why we adopted this method?

In our planning for relief work, we assessed two types of victims.

1. Real victims

2. Fake victims (victims standing along the roadside) from other cities, they just collect the relief and back to their homes and they sell the material which collect in donation in their respective cities.

We visited some victims sitting in the tents to know about the relief work. They shared no doubt the generous people are helping them with different materials but they are completely unaware or cannot imagine that false people are also present in the earthquake areas from near cities(Manshera,Abottabad,Havelian and Taxila), so they imagine that these are earthquake victims standing along the road, they distribute their donations and went back.We only received the donations by the organizations, who visited us in our tents (usually those are international organizations). 25% donations by the local people or local organizations reached to the right deserving people by distribution on roads or without visiting the victims’ tents.

TV had issued slip by visiting each and every tent and victims with that slip were reached to the distribution place (DP), where the RSs provided the material according to the instructions. DP has regular monitoring by the transport person to assess the stock; transport person with our small vehicle had kept the stock constant at DP from the hired trucks (with our material from Faisalabad).

In our evaluation session on the way from Balakot to Faisalabad (10 hours traveling time) at lunch, we found following benefits in this method.

  1. Relief reached to the right deserving victims.
  2. Assessed present and future relief need.
  3. Developed base for concerning relations.
  4. Provided support to the handicap people.
  5. Provided support to the old persons.
  6. Provided support to the people who feel shy to get support in queue.
  7. Provided support to widows(lost their husbands in earthquake).

Victims receiving their relief at different distribution places.

Ali lost his right hand all fingers in earthquake; he received regularly dressing for 4 days from AIM’s medical camp.

Woman(Zanib Bibi),lost her whole family. She is sharing our loss with AIM member and repeatedly requesting forgiveness from God.

People comments about our services and material.

1. Quilts:

These are according to need and coming season.

2. Food commodities:

It is good for us; we can use them without cooking.

3. Medicine and medical services:

In our medical team, two ladies are present and in our selected there are/were medical camps but lack female

staff so, according to the culture and tradition, man cannot allow their woman to get services

from male doctors. Our medical camp received large number of women because women and

children suffered more because they were at home on October 8. We have also physiotherapist in our medical team, because mostly people have fractures in legs, arms and some have pressure on backbone. Lot of people received physiotherapy services.

Moral support for this camp:

1. People present around our base camp were so, friendly with us they offered us their services and also interested that they can do cooking for AIM team but, we kept them with us not for the services but for the sake of condolences and moral support.

Earthquake victims became friendly with AIM’s members and provided their services voluntarily for AIM’s relief work at our base camp in Balakot.
Mr.Ikram Ullah Khan Administrator Special Relief Commission Balakot N.W.F.P Visited the AIM’s camp and inquired the work on going and also find any problem during our work.
