Faisalabad
is
a densely populated city, many small, medium and large
working places are present and working places existed in
the living areas or at the distant places from the main
city keep child labour in abundant. They exploit on the
basis of their illiteracy, lacking other or better
working opportunities and unawareness. They shared that
they are working due to their limitations. With their
involvement, the education plan was prepared in keeping
their limitations and situations. Children are attending
the classes after their work, they use participatory
means of education, and teachers have regular in-house
training programs that they make their teaching and
accepting and interesting. They have five stages; each
stage is of 6 months with exception of last stage which
is of 12 months. For four stages, AIM developed an
integrated syllabus while for the last stage, the
children taught book from government with objectives to
continue their education in other formal schools or at
least they appear in the board exam. At the moment AIM
is running 12 centers for the working children. Each
centre has its own starting and closing time because the
children have different working conditions (some works
in workshops, some in small restaurants, shops, home
carpet weaving units and small factories). In total AIM
is educating 1034 children (87% girls and 13% boys) with
the average age of 7-15 years old. AIM started this
program in 1997 and till date today,735 children
attended the centers including present students.
